David Pastrnak and the Boston Bruins agreed to an eight-year, $90 million contract extension, the team announced on March 2, 2023. This should keep Pastrnak in Black and Gold until 2031 and comes with an annual cap hit of $11.25 million. The deal secures a major piece of the Bruins core, especially with the futures of star veterans David Krejci and Captain Patrice Bergeron not set in stone.
The stud right winger has put up stellar performances in the 60 games he has played in this season. Ahead of Mar. 2’s home game against the Buffalo Sabers, he led the team with 42 goals in his third 40-goal season of his career since first being drafted by the Bruins 25th overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. The 26-year-old is one of the top scorers across the league, trailing only behind Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers with 52 goals.
Aside from goals, the Czech Republic native leads the Bruins in several other statistics such as power play points (29) and points per game (1.33). He has also recorded 38 assists and 80 points for the Black and Gold. The 26-year-old holds an impressive plus minus rating of +27 while averaging 19:48 time on ice per game. It will be fascinating to see how Pastrnak’s deal pans out for the B’s and what the team’s future holds for this season and beyond.
